Heroines not given their due

When Vidya Balan started acting in ‘Dirty Picture’ every one wrote her off saying that she is just trying to create an identity of her own by turning erotic. However she stunned all with her performance in the role of Silk Smitha and then repeated the same in her next films like ‘No one killed Jessika’ and ‘Kahaani’. In Kahaani she won the accolades of many as a pregnant woman who comes in search of her husband in the busy streets of Kolkata. Now more recently Priyanka Chopra and Ileana showed the power of heroines in ‘Barfi’ with their superlative performances which some times even surpassed chocolate boy Ranbir Kapoor.
Even Kareena Kapoor did everyone proud with her performance in ‘Heroine’.

This brings a question as to why South Indian counter parts do not make heroine oriented films. Do they lack creativity or fear that those films do not appeal to movie lovers. There is misconception among film makers that movie lovers will only see mass masala entertainers and like their heroes romance heroine and bash baddies. They feel that no one watch heroine oriented films. Bollywood came out of that misconception only recently and may be soon Southern industry will also come out of it.

Tollywood earlier made lady oriented films like Arundhati, Anasuya, Vedam and Mangala. Anushka, Charmi amazed all with their performances. Even Priyamani won national award for her acting in her kollywood film Paruthiveeran. So south is no way inferior to Bollywood and it only takes guts and determination to make heroine oriented films.
